The Peace Candidate
Kucinich casts himself as the peace candidate. Rather than "play to the crowd at the moment," he said, he took an anti-war position when it was unpopular. He wondered why the senators should be considered strong contenders for president when they were so wrong on Iraq with such deadly and destructive results. And "why should I be precluded from being considered when I was so right?"
He added: "Suppose for a moment that I was totally wrong. Suppose Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. . . . Do you think I could even take the stage in a presidential debate?"
Kucinich also knows exactly who his audience is for tonight's forum. He points out that he still lives in the house he bought for $22,500 in 1971.
"I'm speaking to friends and neighbors, people in my neighborhood who are like people all across this country, people hungering for a new direction," he said.
